Caring for your shirt
How to keep your Bespoke shirts in tip top condition
Obviously, your valet will already know all of this. But the following will help you sound authoritatively knowledgeable.
Washing
  • We suggest undoing all shirt buttons before washing; this lessens the strain on the stitching that holds the buttons in place.
  • Don't forget to remove any collar stiffeners.
  • Always read the wash care label. We suggest washing cotton shirts between 40°C and 60°C, and washing dark colours separately.
Ironing
  • Cotton shirts are best ironed whilst slightly damp from washing. Please do not tumble dry as this will remove all the moisture from the natural fibres, and the drum can also cause wear to the collar and cuffs.
  • Start by ironing the collar, then onto the yoke, sleeves, sides and finally the back.
  • Make sure that collar stiffeners have been removed, otherwise you'll damage the points of the collar.
  • Don't iron a double cuff in the folded position as this can lead to lines and splitting.
  • When ironing the collars, iron inwards from each collar tip towards the center. This will stop the fabric bunching at the collar points.
Our founder has a World Ironing Champion trophy from some years back. So he should know.
